Weekend Memories

Another busy, fun-filled weekend here! Unfortunately, my phone decided to take a swim in a porcelain throne and as a result, I lost everything I had stored on my phone, including some of my pictures from the weekend.

That's okay though, I still have a few drool worthy ones to share ;)

On Friday, the hunk and I decided to try a new restaurant downtown and though it was awesome, I'd rather talk about the wine and donuts tasting we stumbled upon at The Wine Cafe. If you're a reader that lives in the Fayetteville area, it is an absolute MUST for you to check this place out. The Wine Cafe is a little piece of heaven on earth with it's walls stocked full to the brim of various wines, local beers, cheese trays, truffles, and cupcakes. There are various stations where you use a prepaid card to purchase either a taste, half glass, or a full glass of wine of your choice that is then dispensed from the wine vending machine. Coolest concept ever, right!?

For the tasting, we sampled four different wines that were matched with a donut to enhance the flavor of the wine. Somehow, I ended up being the only person to enjoy a peppery, red wine paired with a garlic rosemary and romano donut, and I'm now salivating all over my keyboard just thinking about. Anyone else (besides your infant) drooling too?

My next favorite was the hearty but sweet red wine paired with a maple and bacon glazed donut, and then came the spicy red wine paired with a dark chocolate and red pepper donut. Everything paired so perfectly together that the hunk had to practically drag me out of the cafe while I kicked, screamed, and tried to steal more wine ;)

The next morning, we woke up bright and early to be a part of a human wall at a soldier's funeral in downtown Raeford. The Westboro baptist church was set to protest a soldiers funeral and there was no way I was going to sit back and let this happen without trying to help stop this disgusting group of people who call themselves Christians. So the hunk and I, along with 2,000 other people from the surrounding community, lined the streets surrounding the church where the funeral was held to protest against Westboro baptist church.

I try not to get political on my blog but this was something that meant a lot to me which is why I decided to share. You NEVER protest the funeral of someone who gave their life for this wonderful country. It is absolutely no one's business who you choose to sleep with at night and it breaks my heart that there are actually a group of people out there who believe this sort of depraved behavior is justified. I would have lost even more faith in humanity had it not been for the thousands of others who came out to support this soldier. I was moved to tears by the number of people there and as a result, the Westboro Baptist church gave up after 10 minutes of spewing their unnecessary hate. Words can't express just how proud I am of this tight-knit and open minded military community and how thankful I am to be apart of it.

After we left the funeral, we decided to lighten things up by visiting the same Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze we went to last year. Last year, I was pregnant during our visit and I couldn't stop wondering what it would be like to bring our new baby to the patch the following year. So you can imagine how deliriously excited I was to finally bring him him to the same patch.

Of course, Caleb had no idea what was going on the entire time we were there but he still had loads of fun.

And just like last year, the husband rocked the maze and we were one of the first ones out of there. As we were leaving, we were told that we were one of the only five people so far to have completed the whole maze. Needless to say, I will never cease to be in awe of my husbands quick navigating, since I would have definitely been lost in a heart beat!

That boy got skillz ;)

After the maze, we went on our very first hayride, and then watched the outdoor magic show before leaving.

We had such an amazing time as a family of three and now I'm even more excited about next year. Caleb will be old enough to actually understand what's going on by then, haha.

We ended our busy Saturday with a group date to the Stoney Point Trail of Terror Haunted House. This is yet another place in Fayetteville I have to rave about. At $12 a ticket, I thought it was pretty steep for a haunted house but once we finished, we all agreed that it was well beyond worth it.
The trail of terror lasted forever, the house was humongous, the actors were so enthusiastic about making sure we almost peed ourselves, and everything was so incredibly detailed.

It was probably one of the best haunted houses I've ever been to in my life. And I LOVE haunted houses and have been to quite a few.

Finally, Sunday ended up being a simple chore day for us. We went on a mad spree to clean every nook and cranny of our house, before ending the night watching our favorite football team win. So basically, the perfect Sunday...

and another perfect weekend :)

  3. I am SO glad you were part of that human wall. Those protesters disgust me. A person's death is not public domain on which to make disgusting, misguided, hateful political statements.

  4. Thank you for being a part of that human wall and fighting the hate! My heart sank when I read those hateful signs in your photo. What a great example you and your husband are for Caleb, and I'm so happy to hear that your town banded together to combat such malicious people. I love hearing about your adventures with your adorable family! Keep 'em coming!

  5. The westboro baptist church protested a soldier's funeral here at fort bliss last year and the same thing happened, they left after a couple minutes because a few thousand people came out to block out their nonsense ranting.

What a wonderful weekend otherwise! God Bless!
