Hey there strangers. Guess where I'm blogging from?
Korea! Land of the morning calm! HOME!
More on that later though. This weekend we flew to Seattle to catch a military Space-A flight to Korea but since the flight didn't leave till Sunday, we spent the weekend gallivanting all over the land of gray skies, pine trees, and glittery vampires. I fell in love with this part of the country and just had to share a few pics from our adventures this weekend.
First up, Caleb's first ever plane ride! We were surprised to see that he handled the majority of the flight pretty well, he passed out as soon as the plane's engine rumbled and then stayed zonked out for the next 3 hours. However, the last hour of the flight turned into a nightmare. He ended up getting a pretty nasty diaper rash and wasn't afraid to let the whole plane know. If you've met Caleb, you know that he has a pretty hefty set of lungs and that letting the world know when he's unhappy is not a lot of fun ;)
But alas, the plane meltdown was quickly forgotten as I was super excited to meet up with one of my best friends, Jo. She scooped us up from the airport and then took us to her favorite sushi spot.
And OH. MY. GOODNESS. Sushi in the Pacific North West is indescribable. Everything tasted so much more fresh and clean and I could not stop raving about how delicious it was. And I've had sushi in Japan too.
After sushi, we explored the military base before finally settling into our hotel for a much needed nap. Seattle is only 3 hours ahead of our time in North Carolina but all of the traveling from North Carolina, to DC, then to Baltimore and then to Seattle had us wiped out.
We were so tired that both Caleb and the hunk didn't even wake up for dinner. They ended up sleeping for 14 hours while I ended up going to downtown Tacoma with the best friend for dinner and drinks at Marrow.
I wasn't sure if anything else could top the most amazing sashimi that I had for lunch earlier, but the meal we had at Marrow actually did.
We started out with a mixed greens salad with a corn bread grilled crouton topped with sweet onions and butter and a fresh peppercorn honey mustard gourmaise sauce.
If that doesn't sound delicious, keep reading.
Next, we split seared scallops in a sweet pumpkin and leek broth with a
fancy salted (don't know the name of the salt, so country of me haha!),
roasted balsamic and then topped with fresh greens. We also split the
juiciest, most tender, boar shank that melted on our tongues and roasted pepper frites that we both couldn't get enough of.
I know I say it a lot on this blog, but this definitely has to go down as one of the top 10 meals I've had in my life. Expensive, but totally worth every bite.

Even the drinks were amazing and I'm so glad that I was able to spend the evening bonding with one of my best friends over wonderful food and drinks, it was pretty much the perfect experience.
The next day, the family and I braved the cold to explore more the military base, and then eventually met back up with Jo and her family to explore downtown Seattle.
We made our way over to the famous Pike's Place market and were all immediately taken away with how lively it was in the middle of the day, in spite of the biting cold and rain.
We had so much fun exploring all of the adorable stores and taking in the sights and sounds. It's such a colorful, unique place and I LOVED the hustle and bustle of it all. I would go back in a heartbeat!
Our short weekend ended with dinner back at Jo's house. She spoiled us by cooking up a Dominican meal of spanish rice and beans and grilled chicken.
After all of the awesome food we've been eating all weekend, I was once again amazed at how delicious everything was. Food always tastes so much better when it's cooked for you but this is definitely a meal that I won't mind cooking for myself over and over again.
So that was our weekend in Seattle in a nutshell! Lots of good food, warm jackets, great company, and fresh air. And now we're in Korea about to do it all over again ;)
Can't wait to share our crazy adventures here in Korea next!

Glad you had fun in Seattle!!! Sitting in Fremont looking out at the cold rain right now :) What was that first sushi place you went to?
ReplyDeleteWhen we were driving up to Alaska from Bragg we stopped in Seattle for a day or two - I really loved it!
ReplyDeleteYou came to Seattle just a few weeks too late to catch the sun. We have had some amazing weather, but of course as you saw the rain has returned. We don't let that hold us back from enjoying everything the city has to offer though :-) It's good to hear that you enjoyed Seattle, it really is one of the best places to be! Have fun in Korea!
ReplyDeleteI totally recognized the picture of the trees from the base. My husband is stationed there. And you were soo close to my house when you were at Marrow, seriously walking distance. I've never eaten there though. Now it's on my list. :)
ReplyDeleteSeattle is one of my favorite cities. Thx for reminding me. :)
