Where I last left off I mentioned that I fell in love with NYC. And I definitely did. However, I don't see myself ever living there permanently. Especially after visiting and falling in love with the beautiful city of Boston. I've visited Boston before but I was a lot younger and didn't get to do much since I was traveling with family.
This time, we had an awesome "tour guide" and I was with some pretty cool chicks like Anne, Julie, Tina, Sarah, and Courtney which helped make the whole trip that much more amazing.
Our trip started with an early morning train ride from NYC to Boston and it actually was my first time ever riding the Amtrak. I know, I know. I'm so deprived. I actually thought it was the coolest thing ever with how we had wifi and outlets on board and I appreciated that the bathrooms were spacious and clean so I could pump in the bathroom to keep my supply up while I was away from Caleb.
The ride was a quick and enjoyable experience, even though we got stuck in the quiet car and weren't allowed to chat. When we arrived to Massachusetts I was so taken away with how beautiful the landscape was. It was straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting and I could not stop gushing to Tina about how jealous I was that she lives there.

When we reached our final destination (God that always sounds so morbid, thanks Hollywood) Sarah played tour guide and showed us neat things around the city.

I immediately fell head over heels in love with all of the history in the city.

I also loved how charming and quaint all of the buildings were, in spite of being a pretty large city. And though I've said it before, I'll say it again. I could visit New York City over and over and over again but I definitely see myself living in Boston or it's surrounding areas, for the rest of my life.
That is how hard I fell for Boston.
One of the things I loved was how with some of the stores, you had to walk down stairs from the street to get into them. We stopped at various boutiques where I purchased some jewelry (it's a requirement for me to buy jewelry at every place I travel to) and then we stopped at a really cute, local frozen yogurt shop.
Since I had already had yogurt on the train, I decided to be a rebel and order a waffle almost as good as the Wafels and Dinges one in NY while everyone else got froyo.
Sarah then took us to the gorgeous Charles River Park so we could walk off our snack and build up an appetite for our dinner.

I ended up LOVING this park. There were so many adorable paths and walkways along the water and everyone seemed so relaxed and laid back. I could totally see myself running the jogging trail every morning with Caleb at the park.

Can the Army please send my husband here? Please!?
After gushing over the beautiful park, we walked even more and came across the famous Cheers bar. So cool!

We must have really got in a workout with all of the walking we did because when it came time to get ready for dinner, we were all exhausted, starving, and ridiculously excited for this restaurant Sarah had been raving about all day.
We ended up at Red Lantern, which apparently is a pretty exclusive restaurant in the city that some of the Red Sox players like to frequent. Sarah worked her sweet connection skills and got us a reservation at the last minute. Score!
When we first walked in, we were all wowed by the gorgeous decor and how delicious the restaurant smelled. We couldn't wait to get our grub on!

Since Red Lantern is the kind of restaurant where you order a variety of dishes to share with each other, we all agreed to start with the tuna tartare and asian skewers. They were soooo good! Both apps ended up being my favorite meals of the night.

For our entree we split Sea Bass over Eggplant, Tik Tok chicken (orange chicken), and a Drunken Noodle bowl.

We asked for a ton of veggies but all we ended up with is some garnish and a broccoli. Yes, only one piece of broccoli.
Fortunately, the good company made up for our sad, loner broccoli dish. It's always so fun going to out eat with fellow bloggers since they completely understand the need and want to whip out a camera and snap pics mid-meal.
Red Lantern was definitely a fun place to visit but it's probably not a restaurant I'll take my husband to when he gets back from his deployment.
You hear that, baby? We're going to Boston when you get back. Capiche?
Anyway, after we left the restaurant, we braved the cold Boston air and made our way back to Sarah's house to wait for a cab to our hotel. It was pretty late by this point and I was deliriously tired. When we finally arrived to our hotel and checked in to our rooms, I was, clearly, so overjoyed.

As much as I love Boston and could walk the city all day, I was ready to collapse in that big, lusciously soft, heavenly bed.
Plus, I was looking forward to sleeping through the night for once since I definitely needed a good night's rest for the jam packed day we had planned with Reebok the next day!
But that recap is next so you'll just have to wait ;)
***Thanks to Tina, Courtney, and Anne for the pictures!

Boston is my favourite city. I cannot wait to go back! We were going to roadtrip it in September but 12+ hours in the car is a bit much for little E so I'm keeping an eye open for cheap flights. I would live there for sure.
ReplyDeleteAwe, your pictures take me back!! I miss living in (OK, just outside) Boston. Such a wonderful city. The little park by all your pictures, with the swan boats is the Public Garden though... go there on a Saturday in June, and it's wedding photo central! We saw 9 different bridal parties there once, lol. It would be a GREAT trip for you and the hunk post-deployment.. and there's tons of kid friendly things to do, so you could do it just the two of you, or with Caleb!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh Boston is next on my list of places to visit!! This post only made me want to go even more. The only worry I have about actually living in the Northeast is the winters....brrr. This Texas girl probably couldn't handle it!
ReplyDeleteIm from Massachusetts, and Boston is by far my favorite city. A lot of my friends live there, and your post made me so nostalgic for home. It really is a great city...wayyy smaller than NYC and very easy to get around, and so much to do!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love New York!I think we are going this summer, and this is making me EXTRA excited!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get that sassy, sexy brown leather jacket?? loves
ReplyDeleteI miss it! I grew up in Massachusetts, and after college lived in Boston, where I met and fell in love with my dh. If you want to be stationed there, your husband will have to switch to the Air Force. My husband was at Hanscom AFB about 15 miles north of the city, it's a little base but a great area.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful photos, I miss it, I am glad you enjoyed it as well!
I love Boston. Like LOVE LOVE - especially that despite the fact it's a big city, there's plenty of green vegetation. I actually squealed out loud a little at your pictures, haha. I'll cross my fingers that you get to pack up and move there like tomorrow, okay? ;)
