Dear Caleb

You're half a year old now. We've made it past the big six and my how times have changed. You shocked me by starting to crawl.  You're eating food off my plate, you're sitting up like a big boy, you have four teeth now with one more coming in, and just yesterday you pulled yourself up for the first time. You squeal constantly. You love to look at yourself in the mirror and grin. You love holding your arms up to let me know want to be picked up. And you laugh so deeply that sometimes you get the hiccups after chuckling.

Your smile is still just as gorgeous as the day you first smiled. And you still smile with your eyes till they look like little crescent moons. You still greet me every morning with a smile where only half your lip is turned up as of you're smirking because it's too early in the morning for me to be awake. You smile when anyone approaches you and then nuzzle your head into my chest, and then everything around me goes to blank as all I can feel is this immense happiness and pride that you chose my arms to feel safe in. Your eyes light up and you flash your big grin at pretty girls and then I can't help but start to think about your future.

You're already growing so fast and before I know it, you'll be off to kindergarten, high school, and then you'll be living on your own in college. Some day you'll even have a family of your own.

Only then will you ever understand just how much I love you and just how crazy I am about you.

I never understood a mothers love until I had you. Thank you for helping me to understand. Thank you for showing me what its like to look at the world through your bright eyes, and thank you for being the light of my life, each and every day. Even when the times get tough, and it's just you and me, thank you for teaching me patience. And for teaching me how strong I can be.

Thank you for all of the smiles, squeals, coos, giggles, laughs, and hugs that make this time worth every struggle. I can't believe I would ever thank anyone for this but thank you for all of the blowouts, poopy fingers, and public screamfests for teaching me to brush off the little things and to appreciate the small things.

You took my breath away when I held you for the first time and I've been trying to catch my breath since that momentous day. Thank you for teaching me unconditional love and happiness.

You are my joy. My everything. And my world. Happy half a year my sweet baby boy.

Love,

Omma

  9. Excellent post. "They grow up so quick" is what everyone says... but you never understand it until it is your own. You must print this out and save for him.

    1. I'm hoping he'll come across this someday and see what his mom and dad are really like...and that we're not as uncool as he thinks we are. Not saying that we're totally uncool or anything ;)

And thank you to everyone else :)
